MSO/DS4000 series Horizontal Reference and Trigger position

Last Updated: Apr 29, 2019 02:25PM PDT
For certain applications there will be more interest the signal after the trigger point. To maximize the scope memory for post trigger acquisitions you can move the trigger point from the default center of the screen to the left side of the display.

Trigger point at second graticule of the display:

Now as you expand the scale setting from 200us to 100us or greater to get more detail the triggered edge of the signal moves to the left and off the display. This is indicated by the trigger indicator pointing to the left.

You could use the Horizontal position knob to move the signal of interest back into view but there is a more efficient way of keeping the area of interest on the display.

This is done by selecting Horizontal Reference from Center to Trigger Position. Push the Horizontal Menu key to access this parameter.

Now as you adjust the Horizontal scale knob to stretch out the signal to see more detail the signal no longer moves off the screen.
